About this tool
Make photos and graphics smaller without sending them anywhere. Drop up to 20 images, choose how much to compress with a quality slider, a one-tap preset or a target file size such as 200 KB, and compare the original with the result before you save.
The pictures are processed by your browser, so private photos stay private, and the compressed copies also lose their hidden camera and location data.
How to use it
- Add your imagesDrop JPG, PNG, WebP or other images onto the page, or tap to browse. You can add up to 20 at once, or switch to Link and paste the address of an image.
- Choose how much to compressPick a preset, move the quality slider, or switch to Target size and enter a limit in KB or MB.
- Pick format and sizeKeep the format, or convert to JPEG or WebP, and optionally limit the longest side to a smaller number of pixels.
- Compare and downloadSlide between the original and the result, then download each image or all of them in one ZIP.
How the compression works
JPEG and WebP are lossy formats: a quality setting controls how much detail is thrown away to save space. For photos, a quality of about 75 to 85 usually looks the same as the original to the eye while cutting the file size a lot. Below about 50 you begin to see blocky edges and smeared detail.
PNG is different. Browsers can only save PNG without loss, so a PNG photo stays large unless you convert it. For photographs choose JPEG or WebP. For logos, screenshots with flat colours and anything that needs transparency, keep PNG or choose WebP, which keeps transparency. If you convert a transparent picture to JPEG, the transparent areas become white.
Compress to a target file size
Many forms and websites demand an image under a fixed size. Switch to Target size, enter the limit, and Love Video searches for the highest quality that still fits, trying up to eight settings. If even the lowest sensible quality is still too big, it shrinks the picture in small steps and tries again, and it tells you what it ended up with.
If you already know the dimensions you need, use the resize options instead: limiting the longest side to 1920, 1280 or 800 pixels is often the biggest saving of all, because a smaller picture has far fewer pixels to store.
Privacy of your photos
Photos from phones carry hidden metadata: the camera model, the date and often the GPS location. Compressing re-draws the picture on a canvas, which leaves that metadata behind. The rotation is applied to the pixels first, so photos are not turned the wrong way. Colours from wide-gamut cameras are converted to standard sRGB.
Limits and tips
- Up to 20 images per batch and up to 50 megapixels each. On iPhone and iPad, Safari limits canvas size, so very large pictures are scaled down to about 16 megapixels automatically.
- Outputs are JPEG, WebP or PNG. Animated GIFs and other animations become a single still image.
- HEIC photos can only be opened by Safari. Other browsers cannot read HEIC; export the picture as JPEG first.
- WebP is supported by every current browser, but a few older programs cannot open it. Use JPEG if you are unsure.
- If an image cannot be made smaller in the format you chose, the tool keeps your original rather than hand you a bigger file, and says so.
- Changing a setting recompresses your images right away, so you can watch the size change as you drag the slider.
Privacy
Your images stay on your device. They are decoded, resized and re-encoded by your browser, and nothing is uploaded. This tool never downloads the video engine. After each run Love Video receives one tiny anonymous counter (which tool, whether it worked, how long it took, a size range, the percentage saved) with no file name or link attached. Only a pasted image link is sent to our server, as it is for the downloader. See the Terms of Use.
Frequently asked questions
- What quality setting should I use?
- For photos, 75 to 85 is a good balance: the file is much smaller and the difference is hard to see. Use a lower number for thumbnails and a higher one for pictures that will be printed or edited again.
- How do I get an image under 100 KB?
- Switch to Target size, enter 100 KB and choose JPEG or WebP. Love Video finds the best quality that fits and, if needed, reduces the dimensions too.
- Does it remove EXIF and GPS data?
- Yes. The compressed copy is drawn fresh, so camera details, dates and location tags are not carried over. Your original file is not changed.
- Why did my PNG barely shrink?
- PNG is lossless, so it cannot be squeezed much without changing the format. Convert photos to JPEG or WebP, or reduce the pixel dimensions, for a real saving.
- Are my pictures uploaded?
- No. Images you choose are processed in your browser and never sent to Love Video. Only a pasted image link is scanned by our server.
- Can I compress many images at once?
- Yes, up to 20 at a time. Download them one by one or all together as a ZIP file.
