About this tool
Cut a song, a voice memo or a podcast down to the part you need. Choose an audio file, drag the two handles over the waveform (or type exact times), listen to the selection and press Cut audio. The result is a new MP3 that you can download immediately. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no sign-up or watermark.
The tool accepts MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, OGG, FLAC and more, and it also takes video files: the sound is taken from the video, so you can trim a quote or a song out of a clip. Add a fade in or fade out of up to ten seconds, pick the MP3 quality, or press the Ringtone button for a ready-made 30 second selection.
How to use it
- Choose your audioDrop an audio or video file onto the page or tap to browse, or switch to Link and paste the address of a track or video.
- Mark the part you wantDrag the start and end handles on the waveform, type times such as 0:45.5, or play the audio and press Set start at playhead and Set end at playhead.
- Add fades and choose the qualityOptionally set a fade in and fade out, choose 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps, or keep the Original quality when the file is an MP3.
- Cut and savePress Cut audio, listen to the result and download the MP3, or open it in another tool.
Cutting without losing quality
When your file is already an MP3, you leave the quality on Original and use no fades, the tool does not re-encode anything. It copies the MP3 frames between your two points, which takes a moment and keeps the sound identical to the original. An MP3 frame lasts about 26 milliseconds, so the cut is accurate to well under a tenth of a second.
Any other situation needs the audio to be encoded to MP3: a different input format, a fade, or a bitrate you choose. The tool then uses the LAME MP3 encoder at 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps. Higher numbers make larger files with more detail, and 192 kbps is a good balance for music.
Fade in and fade out
A fade smooths the start or end of a clip so that it does not begin or stop with a click. You can set each fade from half a second up to ten seconds with the sliders. If the two fades together would be longer than the selection, each is limited to half of it. Because fades change the audio, they need the clip to be re-encoded, and the tool tells you when the Original option is therefore replaced by a matching bitrate.
Make a ringtone
Press Ringtone (30 s) and the tool selects thirty seconds starting at your start handle, with a short fade in and out. Move the selection to the part you like best, listen to it, and save it as an MP3. Android phones accept an MP3 as a ringtone or notification sound. iPhones use a different format (M4R), which this tool does not make.
Reading the waveform
The waveform shows loudness over time: tall bars are loud, short bars are quiet. Silence between songs or words shows up as a flat line, which makes it easy to find a clean cut point. Click the waveform to move the playhead, press Play selection to hear only the part between the handles, and use the arrow keys on a focused handle to nudge it by a tenth of a second. For very large files the waveform is built from a lower-resolution copy so that your browser does not run out of memory.
Limits and tips
- Files up to about 1 GB work on most desktop computers, with a warning above 300 MB. On phones and tablets the limit is about 300 MB.
- The output is always an MP3. Metadata such as tags and cover art is not copied.
- If your browser cannot play a format (some FLAC, WMA or video codecs), the preview is disabled, but the cut still works from the times you type.
- Fades and format changes re-encode the audio, which takes a little longer than a plain MP3 cut. Even a long song is usually finished in seconds on a computer.
- Keep the tab open while the tool works. You can cancel at any time and your settings are kept.
- The first run downloads the conversion engine (about 10 MB compressed) and keeps it in your browser's cache.
Privacy
Your audio stays on your device. It is read, cut and saved by your browser. After each run Love Video receives one tiny anonymous counter (which tool, whether it worked, how long it took, a size range) with no file name or link attached. A pasted link is the only thing sent to our server, as it is for the downloader. See the Terms of Use.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I cut an MP3 online for free?
- Choose the file, drag the two handles on the waveform to mark the part you want, and press Cut audio. The cutting happens in your browser, and you download a new MP3. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
- Is there any quality loss when I cut an MP3?
- Not when you keep the quality on Original and do not add a fade: the MP3 data is copied unchanged. A fade, another input format or a chosen bitrate means the audio is encoded again to MP3.
- How do I make a ringtone?
- Press Ringtone (30 s), move the selection to the part you like, listen to it and cut. You get a 30 second MP3 with a short fade in and out, which Android phones accept. iPhones need an M4R file, which this tool does not create.
- Can I cut the audio out of a video?
- Yes. Choose a video file (or paste a video link) and the audio track is used. The result is an MP3 of the part you selected.
- Which audio formats are supported?
- MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, OGG, Opus and FLAC, plus the audio of most video files. The output is an MP3.
- Is my audio uploaded?
- No. A file you choose is processed in your browser and never leaves your device. Only a pasted link is scanned by our server, as the downloader does.
- Why is there no waveform for my file?
- If your browser cannot decode a format and the file is too large for the fallback, the waveform is left out. You can still type the start and end times and cut the file.
